Microphone Issues Detected - what to do
Here we explain why you see the 'Microphone issues detected' warning and how to address it.
The "Microphone Issues Detected" warning appears when our AI reviews your transcript and identifies that parts of the conversation may be missing or poorly transcribed - essentially your transcript seems nonsensical. This suggests there may be an issue with your mic's pickup. Here's how to address it.

Step 1: Check your transcript
First, review your transcript, found in the Co-Pilot or Freestyle panel on the left-hand side of your screen. You will know best if the transcript accuratly reflects what's been said. If it accurately captures everything that was said during the appointment, you can safely disregard this warning - no further action is needed.
Step 2: If your transcript has significant errors or missing content
Work through the common causes below to identify the issue.
Microphone positioning
This is the most common cause. Try speaking directly into the microphone from a short distance and check whether the transcript improves. You may need to reposition your mic to ensure clear transcripts.
Wrong microphone selected
Your browser may be defaulting to the wrong input - for example, your computer's built-in mic rather than an external one. Check your microphone selection using the dropdown and make sure the correct device is selected. This could be happening part way though an appointment - for instance if your wireless mic runs out of charge mid way through.

Background noise or interference
Loud background noise - such as dental equipment, radio, or other conversations - can interfere with transcription. If possible, try to minimise background noise during the appointment, or position the mic closer to the speaker to prioritise their voice.
Microphone volume or sensitivity
Your mic input level may be set too low. Check your system's sound settings and ensure the microphone input volume is turned up. On some devices, a low input level can cause large gaps in transcription.
Hardware issue
If none of the above resolves it, there may be an issue with the microphone itself. Try using a different microphone if you have one available, and see whether the transcription improves. For recommendations on reliable mics that work well with Kiroku, see: What mic do you recommend?
